Xiu Xiu + J. Morrison

Subscription #9:

David Wojnarowicz
East Village artist, visionary, rebel

“I’m beginning to believe that one of the last frontiers left for radical gesture is the imagination. At least in my ungoverned imagination I can fuck somebody without a rubber, or I can, in the privacy of my own skull, douse Helms with a bucket of gasoline and set his putrid ass on fire or throw congressman William Dannemeyer off the Empire State building. These fantasies give me distance from my outrage for a few seconds. They give me momentary comfort. Sexuality defined in images gives me comfort in a hostile world. They give me strength.”

my mom’s husband shot her computer and dog with his gun. he also shot at her, but she got away. he crashed his car into her car, and punched the glass window out and attempted to yank her out by her hair. um… what else? my dad, he is doing exactly the same thing he was doing 15 years ago, plus he thought my birthday was 10 days later this year. other than that, the zoloft is working great. i am not crying anymore, and i am going back to magic mountain on saturday. james is getting over his fear of roller coasters.

why do you read so much about genocide, war, social oppression, colonial horrors, witch trials, sexual and political violence? does it make your still being alive feel some how absolved by the act of knowing? does it satisfy a morbid curiosity?  is it just perverted? does it make you feel superior? is it interesting to know about the negative extremes of human behavior? does knowing about the evil that men do honor those who have been destroyed? does it make you think that some how you could stop something catastrophic in the future if you are aware of other historic catastrophes? does it make you feel relieved to have evaded something horrendous thus far? what if you havn’t evaded something horrendous thus far, do you still read this kind of thing? how is that different for you? do you feel connected to other people who have suffered in the same way? do you want nothing to do with them as they died and you lived so fuck them they won’t drag you to hell?
